Freedom - the view 50 years ago

Over at Indysparings, I caught this cartoon, which seems strangely relevant to our times.

Well worth a watch.

  2. I've had a few comments disappear lately, but all of those turned up in the spam bin. Yours wasn't there, so it must have been eaten by the internet fairies.

  3. What was that Randy Newman song?

They're free to be put in the cage... in the south side of Chicago and the west side...

They had quite a few isms 50 years ago although that show doesn't seem to allow atheism as one of them.

  4. Well spotted. "Free to worship the God of your choice", or something - no mention of 'free to not believe at all'.

Reminds me of the olod joke about the bar in Nashville, where the proprietor boasted "We like all kinds of music here. We play Country AND Western".

In that, as in other references, that clip was of its time. But I was surprised how coherent it sounded on the freedom issue, and how it resonated with us now in 2010.
