IAM poll - Eco Driving

Coming thick and fast, here is yet another opportunity to tell the IAM what you think.

IAM Poll - Eco Driving

I had fun with this one.
  • I haven't changed my behaviour to save fuel. Turning hydrocarbons into motion and noise is one of the few pleasures left.
  • I haven't considered giving up my car (or bike, don't forget the bike). Cold, dead hands, etc.
  • I do the usual things to reduce fuel consumption, like check my tyre pressures, but if I want to brake hard or accelerate unnecessarily, I will bloody well do so.
  • Toll roads and parking rates should not reflect the fuel efficiency of the vehicle: that is the start of a very slippery slope.
  • Diesel and petrol should be taxed the same, and as low as possible, if at all.
  • My next car will be a diesel, because of the way they make the power, not for any eco-loony reason. Grunt is good.
  • I would not consider going on an eco-driving course. My life is sad enough as it is.
Some of those responses were hard to fit in, as you might imagine.

You don't have to be a member, etc., etc.

  1. Eco driving... and me. Oh, this is going to be fun. Thank you thank you thank you Richard.

How have you changed your behaviour to save fuel?

Wow! Good that they remembered the golden rule of starting with a non-leading question... not.

  2. Would you consider doing an eco-driving course?

Awww... there's no option for "Get lost. My next driving course is an MSA licence. How different could you get?"

Hmmm, still unable to log in here as me. Maybe it's not going to just fix itself, then...

Have to agree with pretty much all your answers, Rich, apart from having to specify "motorcycle only" in all of them. I did make the point that correct tyre pressures are part of routine vehicle maintenance, hence driven by a desire for safety and performance - couldn't give the proverbial if that happens to help with fuel economy or not.

My next car will be another high-performance motorcycle and therefore, by default, run on the highest-octane petrol available.

I don't think anyone will be forcing me to accept an Eco-Warrior of the Year 2011 award, to be honest.

  4. I lost a mark during my advanced test because I didn't stop my engine whilst waiting at a level crossing. I did not spot that the examimer had done so - obviously I have poor observation skills.

When you get your diesel car get it chipped so that when you boot it you lay a trail of unburnt soot behind you - always gives me a thrill!

Nikos who cannot seem to post as Nikos anymore due to something weird going on
