Yamahaha

Just to report: I have gone back to bike commuting after spending this last couple of weeks of Global Warming in the car. The Triumph is in the garage, oiled up like a mud-wrestler and silent. Meanwhile, the scabby old Yamaha is doing the business, and getting me to work in record time. I am fond of that bike.

Rain and wind, rather than snow and ice. That'll do me.

  1. Looks like you've done a few running repairs there, Richard. :)

  2. I'll take the wind and rain anytime over the snow and ice as well. The weather has taken a turn for the worse in these parts, nothing but snow, cold and ice. I should have taken the XT600 over the 350 I would probably still own the 600. Not nearly enough honk in the 350. Hindsight is always 20/20.

  3. My XT in Brecon did me proud for a decade and living in the hills it became my best freind, especially during lambing season. Vendetta

  5. @SH: It's a bit like Trigger's Broom - it's slowly becoming all repair and no bike.

@Gymi: I've had two XT350s in the past, and they aren't far short of the 600. Nothing like the difference the numbers would suggest, and top speed about the same. The 600 has got more guts, though, for hills and loads. Or 'cuddly' riders.

@RFB: 'best friend' is a pretty good summary, in fact. These bikes get under your skin. I couldn't contemplate selling it, ever.

@Don: nope, it's what a (non-biking) friend of mine calls it. To him, a Yamaha is a piano. (Remember when they were advertised - 1970s? - as "The Tuning Fork Motorcycle"?)
