Contrasts

From the expression of sincere and heartfelt thanks to soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of others*:

... to the expression of sincere and heartfelt self-centredness 67 years later:

TO THE 6TH AIRBORNE DIVISION
ON THIS DAY 6TH JUNE 1944 YOU CAME TO GIVE BACK TO US THE
FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT OF MAN "FREEDOM"
MAY OUR MEMORIES NEVER BE VANQUISHED BY FORGETFULNESS
MAY WE NEVER FORGET

  1. That must be an illegal numberplate, surely? I would love to see him get nicked... :/

  2. The "G" and the "1" are pretty close, but as number plates go it's fairly tame. I think that virtually all the new style ones are badly laid out - there is never a gap between the second and third characters. The format should read 2 letters, 2 numbers & 3 letters. But you'll see something like A007 ABC which most folk think reads as A-007, when it's actually AO Zero Seven...

I know, I'm being a pedantic idiot today....

As for the post content, many of us wonder why millions fought for freedom all those years ago, only for a bunch of greedy, arrogant idiots to ruin our lives now. We won't forget, but they haven't the faintest idea, nor would they care...

  3. Dave, totally agree. Everywhere you go round here (Caen area) there are memorials and cemeteries and plaques, and every one of them concerns the freedom from oppression that the Allies fought for. I went to the British Cemetery (a quiet and unassuming place in the middle of nowhere) and very few of the headstones gave an age higher than 30. These were people of a similar age to my children. When I look at the way things are going in government and society as a whole, I despair.
