Too late: ther are just a spark of yellow dust in the grass clippings pile now. But I like the idea of the horta. Anna is thinking of making nettle soup (something else that is flourishing this year at Chateau Nowhere), so perhaps we have a two-course meal in preparation. Does the horta go well with feta?
I'm quite fond of LIDL's stuff (jams and marmalades especially) but I haven't tried their cheeses. I always get the Crespo olives from my local Morrison's, which are the best I have had in a long time. (On the other hand, I have never been to Greece!)
The olive oil on the horta went without saying! Can't have salad without it.
My Mother in law picks the leaves, cooks them with a bit of lemon juice and serves them up as the Greek dish "horta".
ReplyDeleteI bet a lot of Greeks will be doing the same this year!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! LIDL do quite a nice feta but it's hard to find good olives! Judicious use of olive oil is required on the horta by the way.
